János Tamás Varga, managing partner

János Tamás Varga János Tamás embodies the values of inspiring leadership, striving for perfection, commitment, courage and harmony. He has managed to create a successful team of lawyers, who are all experts in different legal fields, who understand the commercial realities of business, and who are, at the same time, all masters of collaboration.

János Tamás has developed real expertise and experience across a wide range of practices, transactions and legal matters with cross-border elements over the last 18 years.

As an M&A specialist, he advises on international private equity, venture capital and strategic investments in Hungarian companies. Major industries of his activity include aviation, business services, communications, software development, information technology, manufacturing, consumer goods, real estate, financial sector, online and offline media, healthcare and biotechnology. He has acted as lead counsel in over 60 international transactions.

His transactional experience also includes acting for both service providers and customers on a wide range of outsourcing transactions. He has advised market leading Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) services providers on their biggest Hungarian projects in the financial services, telecommunications, energy and utility industries, and he also advises leading financial services providers as customers of BPO services.

In addition, János Tamás regularly acts for clients in high-value employment litigation and in arbitrations and he also advises on both financing and regulatory matters especially in the telecommunications and financial services sectors.

Zoltán Csernus, partner

Zoltán Csernus

Zoltán has extensive experience in labour and employment matters and has advised a number of multinational clients on a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. His experience as an employment and labour lawyer covers due diligence, employee transfers in outsourcing and M&A transactions, employment litigation, implementation of foreign employment agreement templates in the Hungarian legal environment, preparing internal HR policies and guidelines, advising on termination matters including mass dismissals but also termination of leading employee and CEO employments.

He is also frequently involved in disputes in other jurisdictions with Hungarian legal aspects in which the firm acts in conjunction with local counsel.

Zoltán graduated from the Law School of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest in 2000 and received an LLM from the Central European University, Budapest in 2001. Besides English and Hungarian he is also fluent in both Serbian and Croatian.

Gábor Hacsi, partner

Gábor Hacsi

Gábor joined VJT & Partners upon graduation and was made a partner in 2011. He is well-known for his commitment and courage in both his private and professional life.

Gábor is the head of commercial in VJT & Partners. He advises on a broad range of commercial contracts and has gained wide experience in drafting and negotiating various commercial contracts, GTCs, policies etc. in the retail, real property, financial services, insurance and IT sectors. Within the commercial area, he has specialist expertise in competition law matters and business immigration.

He leads VJT & Partners’ technology practice. His experience includes drafting and negotiating technology outsourcing deals, cloud computing-based deals for both customers and suppliers in a range of industries, including IT and insurance. In the past decade he has built up a firm knowledge and experience in advising clients on data protection matters as well. In major transactions he regularly advises clients on the transfer/assignment of copyrights and other IP rights.

Gábor graduated from the Law School of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest in 2006. Also, he received a post-graduate degree in the field of competition law from the Law School of Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Budapest in 2010. He was a member of Bibó István College of Law, Budapest between 2003 and 2009. Besides English and Hungarian he speaks French as well.

András Lovretity, partner

András Lovretity

András Lovretity joined VJT & Partners in 2015 as a partner heading the firm’s M&A practice.

András has more than 14 years of experience in international M&A, restructuring and private equity transactions, as well as participation in a wide variety of project-related proceedings in all stages of such projects from due diligence to drafting and negotiating the terms of the transaction and legal assistance in closing the deal. The M&A projects András has worked on included both domestic and cross-border acquisitions as well as privatizations.

In addition to András’ M&A transactional and projects experience gained during his years with an international law firm and subsequent affiliations, he has become an expert in the legal aspects of the aviation industry through eight plus years advising Budapest Airport on various projects and business matters.

András also possesses significant legal expertise in real estate and construction and has been involved in all aspects of development projects including permitting, design and construction of commercial facilities and their subsequent lease to business operators.

The scope of András’ legal advisory work also includes counseling in various transactions in the public procurement regime and matters concerning state property as well as competition law cases including merger clearance, restrictive agreements and abuse of dominant position.

András graduated from the Law School of Eötvös Loránd University, Győr in 2001 and has been a member of the Budapest Bar since 2005.
